Christian Church of Wilkinsburg

The Visitor - June 2004

Notes On The Journey

I'm proud of you church!  You are going into this summer full steam ahead.  While other churches fold their tents and wait for the fall, our church is actively reaching out to our community and beyond this summer.
It all begins with our first revival in decades this weekend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, June 4-6 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm.  Each evening we will host a different Christian artist and then conclude our time with a Hope and Healing Prayer Service.  On Sunday evening we will distribute hot dogs and free prizes to our neighbors.
Hope and Healing will then continue every Sunday evening (except July 4) at 6:00 pm outdoors in our parking lot when weather is warm and inside when it is raining.  This summer our Hope and Healing service will focus on Sharing the Faith.  Each week we hope to have a different member of the church present a story of how God has worked or is working in their lives.  Are you interested in sharing your story?
On Friday evenings (except July 2) we will open our doors to the families of the community with Family Faith and Fun Nights from 6:00 - 8:00 pm.  FFF Nights will include recreation in the gym, supper, Bible study for adults, youth and children and a closing prayer circle.  VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED FOR BOTH THE HOPE AND HEALING SERVICES AND FOR FAMILY FAITH AND FUN NIGHTS!!!
In addiction to reaching out to our community every weekend, several of us (16 have expressed interest so far) will be traveling to Kinston, North Carolina July 17-24 to work on building a new church building for a new African-American congregation.  This will be our first Mission Trip for youth and adults and we hope that it will become an annual event as we reach out well beyond our Wilkinsburg.  Registration forms and a $25 deposit are due for the Mission Trip on Sunday, June 20.
Of course, we will be attending the Regional Assembly in Johnstown June 25-27 and a number of our youth will be campers at Camp Laurelview, while several of us will be leading the Mini-Camp June 30-July 2.
It's going to be a busy summer for Jesus!
                                                                                                                                           Love you more, Pastor Janet

P.S. Welcome new members Stacie Hutchinson and Peggy Blackshirem who joined our church at the end of May!   What a joy to have you and your wonderful families with us!  Have you noticed how many babies are popping up in our Sunday morning worship lately?  Slowly, but surely we are growing in the Lord!  Praise God!!!
